Furnished Apartment with Work Exchange in Abruzzo, Italy (images below)
Available: split-level, furnished apartment at Fontecchio International Airport—an artistic and cultural revitalization initiative in the historic Palazzo Galli of Fontecchio (population 350).
The Airport offers an ongoing 3-6 month partial work-exchange opportunity as a way of maintaining our basic operations while inviting new involvement from emerging artists/arts professionals, as well as established artists and academics on sabbatical, who wish to spend focused time in a rural location while contributing to a local project.
The apartment is one of four apartments that are part of the larger Airport initiative. With the other three apartments, we welcome travelers through an online platform and host artist residencies whenever possible. All apartments share a beautiful interior courtyard.
Details
Rent contribution: €200/month (Includes utilities, Wi-Fi, and gas/heating)
Deposit: €200 (Applied to your final month's rent)
Work Exchange: 8 hours per week
Availability: Starting October, 2026
Responsibilities
First Saturday Open Studio-Gallery Duty (6hrs/mo): Host the Open Studio/Gallery of the first Saturday of each month (5:00 PM – 9:00 PM). This is a day when you would open and be present in the Fontecchio International Gallery/Studio to welcome visitors, answer questions, and process the occasional sale of artwork. Having this open event is one of the ways that we continue to help promote the village of Fontecchio as a site of cultural activity
Caretaking of Courtyard & Pets (3–4 hrs): Tend to the care/upkeep of plants and interrior courtyard and main entrance to maintain a clean and beautiful aesthetic (includes putting out recycling on weekly dates). Feed our sweet pets—Mr. Bugsy (an independent dog) and Blu (a friendly cat who sleeps in your apartment during colder months, but does her thing outside. i.e. no cat litter).
Maintain internal communications and access with Our Co-host: Our co-host, Anna, cleans and prepares the other three apartments for guests. She is present at the property at various times during the week, depending on the season, and will occasionally need access to the washing machine in your apartment, as it is used to wash linens when the third apartment's machine is unavailable (This can be coordinated directly between the two of you).
The Apartment
Layout: Unique multi-level space with vaulted ceilings throughout.
Living Spaces: Main living/kitchen area, full bathroom, plus a large separate shower on the split level.
Sleeping Nooks: Master nook (double bed) and one smaller nook (single bed).
Study/office: A tiny top-floor writing room ("il pertugio") with a smal skylight for natural diffuse light during the day.
Kitchen: Fridge, stovetop, cookware, and electric oven.
Gallery/Studio (additional): The Gallery/Studio is separate from the apartment but you will have the key and be able to use it should you wish to spend time there.

"The apartment is quite unique. It has everything you could need and also it has its own relaxing and inspiring vibe. I was living there for months and it was fun!
I could arrange my own place to play music (I play Japanese traditional bamboo flute) and I figured out a small but functional space upstairs (the "perch"). The amount of light is not huge, but it gives you that dreamy and calm atmosphere which, for me, was crucial for creativity.
Also, the groundskeeper responsibilities were part of a self-caring aspect which everyone should care about and it was not overwhelming at all. Overall, it was a nice experience that gives you the possibility to live in one of the most inspiring villages of Abruzzo, immersed in an artistic and creative environment. P.S. I loved to care about the pets, Bugsy the dog will come with you everywhere and Blu the cat is so lovely and cute!"

Disponibile appartamento su più livelli completamente arredato presso il Fontecchio International Airport—un'iniziativa di rivitalizzazione artistica e culturale situata nello storico Palazzo Galli a Fontecchio (350 abitanti).
L'Airport offre un'opportunità di scambio lavoro parziale della durata di 3-6 mesi per sostenere le nostre attività di base, aprendosi al contempo alla collaborazione con artisti emergenti, professionisti del settore dell'arte, o artisti affermati e docenti in anno sabbatico che desiderino trascorrere un periodo di concentrazione e ricerca in un contesto rurale, contribuendo a un progetto locale.
L'appartamento è una delle quattro unità che compongono la struttura complessiva dell'Airport. Nelle altre tre sistemazioni accogliamo viaggiatori tramite piattaforme online e ospitiamo residenze d'artista ogni volta che è possibile. Tutti gli appartamenti condividono un suggestivo cortile interno.

Mansioni e Responsabilità
Accoglienza Primo Sabato del Mese – Open Studio/Galleria (6 ore/mese): Gestione dell'Open Studio/Galleria il primo sabato di ogni mese (dalle 17:00 alle 21:00). Durante questo appuntamento ti occuperai dell'apertura del Fontecchio International Gallery/Studio, accogliendo i visitatori, fornendo informazioni e gestendo l'eventuale vendita delle opere. Questo evento mensile è una delle iniziative principali con cui promuoviamo il borgo di Fontecchio come centro attivo di produzione culturale.
Cura del Cortile e degli Animali Domestici (3–4 ore/settimana): Manutenzione e cura delle piante, del cortile interno e dell'ingresso principale per garantire un ambiente sempre pulito e curato (include la gestione dei secchi della raccolta differenziata nei giorni stabiliti). Accudimento e alimentazione dei nostri animali domestici: Mr. Bugsy (un cane molto indipendente) e Blu (una gatta affettuosa che nei mesi più freddi dorme in appartamento ma che trascorre la giornata all'aperto, non richiedendo l'uso della lettiera).
Comunicazione Interna e Coordinamento con la Co-Host: La nostra co-host, Anna, si occupa delle pulizie e della preparazione degli altri tre appartamenti per gli ospiti. È presente in struttura in vari momenti della settimana a seconda della stagione e avrà occasionalmente necessità di accedere alla lavatrice presente nel tuo appartamento per il lavaggio della biancheria, qualora quella del terzo appartamento sia occupata (la gestione del passaggio potrà essere coordinata direttamente tra voi).
L'Appartamento
Disposizione: Spazio unico articolato su più livelli con soffitti a volta in tutti gli ambienti.
Zona Giorno: Zona living/cucina principale, bagno completo e un'ulteriore cabina doccia di grandi dimensioni situata sul livello intermedio.
Zone Notte: Alcova padronale (letto matrimoniale) e una seconda alcova più piccola (letto singolo).
Studio/Ufficio: Un piccolo studio/zona scrittura all'ultimo piano ("il pertugio") dotato di lucernario per godere di luce naturale diffusa durante il giorno.
Cucina: Fornita di frigorifero, piano cottura, stoviglie e forno elettrico.
Galleria/Studio (spazio aggiuntivo): La Galleria/Studio si trova in un ambiente separato dall'appartamento, ma avrai a disposizione le chiavi per poter usufruire dello spazio per le tue attività ogni volta che lo desideri.
